For three decades, the New York brain injury law firm of DE CARO & KAPLEN, LLP has represented victims of traumatic brain injury, brain damage caused by vehicle negligence, landlord misconduct, medical malpractice and construction site accidents. We represent persons who have been in a coma, suffered anoxic brain damage due to lack of oxygen, suffered fractured skulls, bleeding in their brain and sustained concussions or other forms of closed head injury.

Michael V. Kaplen the Chair of the New York State Traumatic Brain Injury Services Council and the three term president of the Brain Injury Association of New York State. He is Past Chair of the American Association for Justice Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group and is also served as Chair of the American Association for Justice Automobile, Highway and Premise Liability Section. He is a Vice President of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers and is on the Board of Governors of the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys.
Michael has been an adjunct professor of law teaching courses in trial practice and medical malpractice at St. John’s University School of Law and is Clinical Professor of Psychology in the Graduate School of Psychology, Touro College and a guest lecturer at The George Washington University. He is board certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and is also board certified by the American Board of Professional Liability attorneys in the field of medical malpractice.
He has been named a New York Super Lawyer for the years 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 and one of the top 100 trial lawyers in New York State by the American Association of Trial Lawyers. He is an elected fellow of the Melvin M. Belli Society.
Shana De Caro is an Officer of the American Association for Justice, Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Civil Justice Foundation. Shana is a trial and appellate lawyer focusing her practice on representing victims of traumatic brain injury and other catastrophic injuries.
She serves as Editor of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, monthly legal update. She has been a member of the Medical Malpractice Review Panels in New York State and is a former law secretary to a Justice of the Supreme Court, Kings County. She has served on the executive committee of the special education parents committee in her local school district.
Brain injury attorney, Shana De Caro has been selected for inclusion in Who’s Who of American Women and Who’s Who in American Law. She has been named one of the top 100 trial lawyers in New York by the American Trial Lawyers Association and was elected as an Elite Lawyer.
